How to check your SASSA SRD status
Use our status form above with your South African ID number and the phone number used for your application. You can also use the official SASSA checker linked below the form.
- Go to the status form at the top of this page.
- Enter your own ID number and the phone number used for the application.
- Select Check Status and wait for the response.
- Note the month, displayed decision, reason and any payment information. Keep different months separate when deciding what to do next.
- Use the relevant section below to understand the result or find the official service you need.
If the checker does not open or shows an error
Return to the SRD portal and try its status service. If you still cannot access it, try again later or contact SASSA. An unavailable page or connection error does not establish that your application was declined. Do not send your ID or OTP to someone offering to bypass an error.

What does your SRD status mean?
Read the status together with its month and any reason shown. SASSA’s published status guide distinguishes a month awaiting verification, an approved month and a declined month. SASSA status guide.
The official guide still uses older R350 wording and has no stated publication date. The table below explains that guide with this context retained. Follow any newer instructions displayed on your own official result.
Common labels in SASSA’s published status guide
Displayed label | Explanation in the guide | Practical next step |
|---|---|---|
Period Pending | Verification for that period is pending. | Check back for an update. See pending results. |
Period Approved | The application is approved for that period. The guide directs you to the pay day field. | Check payment information for the same month. See approved but unpaid. |
Period Declined | The application was declined for that period and a reason is provided. | Read the reason. If you disagree, use the official appeals service. |
Bank details pending | The application was received, but banking details or a payment preference were not received. | Review your payment details through the official portal. See banking details. |
Application complete | The guide describes completion of its reapplication process followed by monthly verification. | Check the actual decision for the month you need. This label alone does not establish that money has been paid. |
Reapplication pending | The guide describes a missing reapplication. | Read the current portal instructions before submitting anything. Older reapplication wording does not establish that every applicant must reapply monthly. |
Canceled | The guide describes a cancelled grant and points to reinstatement. | Use the official portal to review available services, or ask SASSA which action applies to your record. |

Approved but no payment or payday
Step-by-step help: SASSA Approved but No Payment: Checks to Make
Approval and payment processing are different steps. SASSA’s published status guide says an approved period should be checked for a pay day value; if none is provided, no payment has been processed yet. This is the guide’s explanation, not a promised payment date. SASSA status guide.
- Confirm the month. Read the result for the unpaid month rather than relying on another month’s approval.
- Check the payment field. If there is no payday, return to the checker for updates. If a date appears, keep it with the month and any displayed payment message.
- Review banking or verification instructions. Follow any action shown on your record. Use the official banking service if your details need correction.
- Escalate a payment you cannot trace. Contact SASSA with the month, status wording and relevant payment information. If a payment date is shown but the funds are absent, ask your bank or payment provider to check as well.
SASSA’s banking-update page requires an account in your own name and says changed banking details apply to future payments after verification. A banking change should not be treated as confirmation that an earlier unpaid month has been resolved. Official banking instructions.
Example: You see “Approved” for the month you need, but no payday. Record those two observations and check again. Do not turn the approval into an assumed collection date.
Status guide and banking instructions reviewed: 7 October 2026. No universal waiting time is stated here.
What to do when your status is pending
Step-by-step help: SASSA Status Pending: What to Check Next
In SASSA’s published status guide, a period marked Pending is awaiting verification. The guide advises checking again later for an update. Pending does not give you an approval decision or payday. SASSA status guide.
Check which month is pending, read any accompanying instruction and keep the phone linked to your application available. If the portal requests an action, complete that action through the official service. If the result stays unresolved and you need help, contact SASSA with its exact wording.
Do not repeatedly submit new applications merely to try to clear a pending label. First establish what the official result asks you to do. This page cannot give a reliable number of days until your individual application will be decided.
Legacy status explanation reviewed: 7 October 2026.
What to do when your SRD application is declined
Read the reason for the declined month. If you disagree with the decision, SASSA’s SRD portal directs you to appeal through the Department of Social Development for each month declined. Official SRD portal.
Copy the reason exactly before deciding whether you need to correct information, complete verification or lodge an appeal. The examples below help you prepare; they are not a complete list of current decline codes.
Questions to ask when reviewing a decline
The problem shown | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
Income or financial-support issue | Which month and information the reason refers to. | If you disagree, review that month through the official appeals service. Ask DSD to clarify any rule you cannot interpret. |
Identity details do not match | Your names and ID as recorded on your identity document and official records. | Use the official correction or verification route and seek SASSA assistance if the mismatch remains. |
A reason you do not understand | The exact wording, month and any accompanying instruction. | Ask SASSA to explain the decision; if you disagree, check the appeal route promptly. |

How to appeal a declined SRD month or check an appeal
Use the official DSD appeals service if you disagree with a declined SRD decision. Its entry form asks for your South African ID number and the phone number used for the application, then offers to send a PIN. Lodge an appeal or check appeal status.
Open the official DSD appeals service
Prepare and submit carefully
- Identify the declined month and read its reason.
- Open the official service at srd.dsd.gov.za and follow its identity and PIN prompts.
- Check that the information reflected on the appeal platform is complete and correct.
- Follow the instructions for the month you are appealing and read any declaration or consent before accepting it.
- Submit and look for the successful-submission confirmation. Keep that confirmation for your records.
- Repeat the appropriate appeal process for each declined month you wish to challenge.

Do not delay an appeal
Check the current deadline and requirements on the official service as soon as you receive a rejection. If the timing is unclear, contact ITSAA promptly. The published DSD page includes older-period material, so this guide does not treat its deadline wording or processing estimate as a universal current rule.
Check an appeal separately from your application
The DSD service is labelled for both lodging an appeal and checking its status. Return there for appeal information. Check your application decision through SASSA and your appeal outcome through the DSD appeals service. Keep the month and confirmation associated with each.
Appeal form and published instructions checked: 7 October 2026. An appeal does not guarantee a changed decision.
Update your application details
Use the official services to update banking details or resolve registered phone and OTP problems.
How to change SRD banking details
Approved SRD beneficiaries can use SASSA’s official banking-update page. It asks for your ID and says it sends an OTP PIN to the mobile number registered during application. New details are used for future payments after verification. SASSA banking-update page.
- Open the official banking-update page and read its instructions.
- Enter your ID there to request the PIN.
- Use the PIN received on your application phone and follow the official prompts.
- Check the payment details carefully before completing the change.
- Return to your official status record for any later payment information.
Conditions on the official banking-update page
Payment option | Condition |
|---|---|
Bank account | You must own the account. SASSA says it cannot pay your grant into someone else’s account. |
Money transfer via a major bank | The mobile number receiving the SMS must be registered in your name. |
Changed details | The new details apply to future payments after verification. |
Source: official banking instructions. If you cannot receive the PIN because you lost the registered number, resolve the phone-number problem first. Do not use another person’s account as a workaround.

Lost registered phone number or no OTP
Step-by-step help: SASSA Phone Number and OTP Problems
The status checker asks for the phone number used to apply, and the banking-update service sends its PIN to the registered application number. SASSA’s SRD portal asks for a reachable number and directs applicants whose contact number differs from their application number to call 0800 601 011 to update it. SASSA portal instructions.
You still have the registered number but no PIN arrives
Check that the number you entered is the one associated with the application and that the phone can receive SMS. Read any resend or error instruction shown by the official service. If it remains unresolved, contact SASSA rather than sending your details to an unofficial “OTP helper”.
You lost the SIM or no longer use that number
Use the official portal’s current contact-update route or call SASSA for help. Explain that you cannot access the number linked to the application. Entering a new number in the status checker does not itself establish that your registered details have changed.
The number belongs to someone else
Ask SASSA how to correct the record. In particular, the official money-transfer instructions require a mobile number registered in your own name. Payment-number condition.
Portal and banking instructions checked: 7 October 2026. Do not post your ID, phone number or OTP in public comments.
Identity verification, mismatched details or a referred result
Follow the verification instruction on your official record. Check that your names and ID match your identity document. SASSA’s published identity guidance directs affected beneficiaries to the SRD website or a local SASSA office for assistance. GCIS application guidance; SASSA identity guidance reported by SAnews.
If you receive a verification message, read its actual instructions and expiry information. Confirm that the request relates to your application before following a link. If you cannot use the required device or complete verification, ask your local SASSA office what assistance is available.
In a November 2024 official statement, SASSA described a “referred” result where an ID was already registered and directed applicants to phone the toll-free number or visit an office. If you see this label, contact SASSA with its exact wording rather than assuming the cause. Official statement.
Dated identity and referral guidance reviewed: 7 October 2026. This page does not diagnose fraud or promise that a particular correction will clear your status.
SRD applications and eligibility
Start on the official SRD portal and select the route for your applicant group. SASSA’s January 2026 statement describes applicants with insufficient means who live in South Africa and fall within specified citizenship, residence or permit groups. SASSA’s eligibility statement.
Who is covered in the official statement?
The statement includes South African citizens, permanent residents, refugees, holders of specified Angolan, Lesotho or Zimbabwe permits, and asylum seekers with a valid section 22 permit or visa. These categories are part of the eligibility conditions; belonging to a category alone does not establish that you qualify.
The statement also describes age and registration conditions, excludes residents of government-funded or subsidised institutions, and says applicants must not unreasonably refuse employment or educational opportunities. Check the current age and means-test rules with SASSA, especially if you are near the upper age boundary or your financial circumstances have changed. Official eligibility context.
Before asking about a means-test decision
Keep the declined month, the exact reason shown and the relevant financial information ready for your own reference. Ask which rule and assessment period were applied. A balance or transfer you can see does not, by itself, explain SASSA’s decision. If you disagree with a declined month, use the official appeals service rather than relying on a threshold quoted on another website.

Apply through the official service
GCIS’s May 2026 application guidance describes cellphone verification by SMS OTP, an identity-verification step, personal details matching your ID and banking details in your own name. It says applications are assessed monthly. Follow the current prompts for your applicant group. Government application guidance.
The live SRD portal says information is provided electronically and documents do not need to be uploaded for that application process. This instruction does not describe every other SASSA grant or every identity-verification situation. Portal instructions.
If your result mentions reapplication or cancellation
Read the exact label before choosing a service. For a declined month, use the appeal guidance. For a cancelled application you want to restore, look for reinstatement on the official portal and follow the instructions shown for your applicant group. If the service is unavailable or the label is unclear, ask SASSA which action applies. Keep any confirmation and return to the status checker; do not assume the request itself confirms approval or payment.
Monthly assessment and submitting another application are different things. If you see older reapplication wording, read the current portal instruction before acting. This guide does not determine eligibility or replace SASSA’s assessment.

R370 status checks and older R350 search terms
“R350 status check” is older wording for the SRD grant. DSD’s 2025 annual report records an increase from R350 to R370 effective April 2024. The 2026 Budget reporting states that the SRD amount remains R370 per month. DSD annual report, note 34; 2026 Budget reporting.
R350 and R370 searches lead to the same SRD checking task. Use the official portal for your record and read the decision for the month you need; older wording does not create a separate checking service.
The 2026 Budget reporting provides funding to extend R370 payments until 31 March 2027. That funding announcement does not establish your personal entitlement or promise a payment date. Official government budget reporting.
Amount and historical evidence checked: 7 October 2026. Old R350 documents are not used here to establish a current grant amount or income threshold.
Protect your information when checking status
SASSA’s published guidance advises beneficiaries to protect personal information and avoid seeking help from strangers. Use the official portal and contact routes when your record needs attention. Official identity and safety guidance.
- Check the website address before entering your ID or phone number.
- Enter an OTP only in the official process you initiated. Do not send it to someone claiming to help.
- Do not post screenshots showing personal identifiers, bank details or OTPs in public comments.
- Treat offers to speed up approval or guarantee a payment as a reason to verify the offer directly with SASSA.
- If you suspect someone is using your details, contact SASSA and ask what steps apply to your record.

Can this website tell me whether I qualify?
No. This website retrieves status information and explains relevant guidance. Your eligibility is assessed through the official process; a guide or successful lookup cannot make that decision.
Should I appeal a pending month?

Does changing banking details fix earlier unpaid months?

What if one month is approved and another is declined?
Deal with each month separately. Read the payment information for the approved month and the reason for the declined month. If you disagree with a declined decision, follow the month-specific appeals process. Official monthly appeal instruction; Status guide.
What if a guide and the live portal show different instructions?
